If someone wants to do that, why bother treating it as alignment? Just call it the sane/insane axis and forget about it....Talysmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162328521343832412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-30454978339780512102013-11-27T12:35:34.071-08:002013-11-27T12:35:34.071-08:00Oh, yes, the DMG rules for tracking alignment were...Oh, yes, the DMG rules for tracking alignment were just plain nonsense, and opened the way for roleplaying penalties and bonuses. Acting in character is its own reward, for those who enjoy it, and its own punishment, when forced upon you.Talysmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162328521343832412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-54495557332338250472013-11-27T11:10:16.557-08:002013-11-27T11:10:16.557-08:00I grew up with the interpretation of alignment as ...I grew up with the interpretation of alignment as personality/beliefs, though treated them more like loose guidelines (1E got ridiculous with all the tracking and penalties, don't you think?) and would often forget to roleplay my alignment when really getting into the game. OD&D really opened my eyes and I've embraced the allegiance sans behavior view wholeheartedly. It's just so much more fun and doesn't get in the way of the game! 'Course, I'm prone to complication, so I'm thinking of expanding the number of teams beyond Law, Neutrality and Chaos (forget Good and Evil; I ain't playin' no epic fantasy)Holly Oatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01703437987958922954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-41487959026244765192013-11-27T09:08:19.531-08:002013-11-27T09:08:19.531-08:00A third usage is "predictability" versus...A third usage is "predictability" versus "craziness." So you have the further complication of people who are completely loyal to their group (law-1) which is ruled by a benevolent despot (good) who is however utterly insane (chaos-2).
