For example, in Chainmail a shield by itself protects just as well as leather. I decided a "best of" approach is easier to handle.

@By The Sword: Naturally, it's assumed that we're talking about equal-sized opponents; if one is slightly bigger, modify the die roll by one or two points. If the defender is much bigger, knockback is impossible. We don't have to allow the impossible to happen.Talysmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162328521343832412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-75533871096321041772012-03-25T08:32:08.163-07:002012-03-25T08:32:08.163-07:00Anything bigger than a buckler can be used to bloc...Anything bigger than a buckler can be used to block missile fire from one direction (minimum protection equivalent to plate.

Nice; I think I'm going to use that too.Necropraxishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12716340801054739658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-19307664834077980742012-03-25T08:21:31.337-07:002012-03-25T08:21:31.337-07:00I like the ideas. I would however be careful about '5+knockback' rule as folks will start knocking -back dragons and giants.

Good overall rules though.By The Swordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16799389743529116360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-2983932549415985112012-03-25T05:30:59.346-07:002012-03-25T05:30:59.346-07:00Hmm. Shields filled in the AC chart; bucklers alone were one AC worse than leather, small shields one worse than chain, large shields one worse than plate, stacking armor + shield improved the better AC by one point. It gives a reason for a large-shield-user to still wear (say) leather armor, but it's more to keep track of than yours.

I like the missile-protection rule and the defend-yourself rule.Jonathonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424548045152722964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239577512598038009.post-33280231893394730142012-03-24T15:41:37.665-07:002012-03-24T15:41:37.665-07:00Not bad rules, I look forward to your house rules ...Not bad rules, I look forward to your house rules document if you decide to publish it.5stonegameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10694550968360550229noreply@blogger.com
